In the 12 years prior to July '08 we lived (in reverse chronological order) in Sydney, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, London, and Madison WI. Every few years we would move and I would purge our extra crap.
In July 2008 we bought our first house. In July 2009 we had our first baby. In that time we have accumulated a ton of shit.
Time to purge.
The Rules:
- Get rid of one thing per day. I have a husband, a baby, a job and a house to take care of. If I skip a day, I'm allowed to get rid of 2 things the next day. As long as there are 365 things gone by December 31, 2010 I win!
- (Almost) Anything is legit. Nothing that would be thrown out in the regular course of a day - no junk mail or used paper towels - but anything that has been sitting around longer than its usual shelf life. Just today I finally tossed a gallon container of Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix that had about half an inch of the electric green stuff in the bottom. It had been in our fridge since Summer 2008. I'm kicking myself for not saving it until the game begins in January. It totally would have counted.
- There are 3 things that can happen to the stuff: Garbage, Give Away, Sell. I have a pile for things that I will try to sell at a Garage Sale. If they don't sell (or I don't have a garage sale) at the end of the year it gets given away or donated.
- Anything that may be worth something I will attempt to sell online. Profits from any sale will be put into a separate account and the balance will be included on this site. I'm not sure what I'll do with the money at the end of the year... I guess it depends on how much money accumulates.
first!
